The Beginning

Masons Yorkshire Gin was the first and original gin distillery to be established in Yorkshire. Opened in 2013 by gin-loving duo and husband and wife, Karl and Cathy Mason, Masons Gin launched the resurgence of gin in Yorkshire.

The first Masons gin launched on World Gin Day 2013, and since then Masons Yorkshire Gin has grown phenomenally.

The Process

We use a traditional slow distillation method, carefully filtered water and just the right balance of botanicals to create a distinctive gin that we are proud to call our own.

On the morning of 2nd April 2019, everything changed. A fire started inside our distillery and caused the entire building to go up in flames, destroying everything.

It goes without saying that without the incredible response from the fire department and the support we have received from our staff, community and our industry colleagues, we would not be in the fortunate position we are in today.

Since our fire at the distillery, unfortunately our beloved stills, Steve & Leftie, have had to retire. Our distillers have been working away using hired facilities, making our Gin the same traditional way. The Masons story was built on doing things properly – gin made with love and care. It was important to us that this continued after the fire and we have been lucky enough to keep making our much-loved gin with that same love, care and passion. Gin as it should be.

The Gin

Masons first launched with our Original Gin in 2013.

In 2015, we expanded our range to include Lavender and Tea editions (using Yorkshire Tea of course!).

Further Special Editions have been added since to complement the range, including Distilled Sloe and Steve’s Apple. Most recently, our Peppered Pear Special Edition was launched at the 2017 Harrogate Christmas Market.

The Rise of the phoenix

Unfortunately on 2nd April 2019 the distillery was destroyed by a huge fire. The very next day, the team assembled around Karl & Cathy’s dining room table, full of spirit and ready to keep the brand going. By the end of the week we had secured temporary premises where we would label and bottle the gin, office space and rental of distillery equipment.

Our new distillery is set to open in early 2020 and construction is fast underway. When re-creating our distillery, it was essential we kept everything under one roof. We built our brand by working closely with our team, so we can’t wait to have everyone back together.
